Restart

  1. Save your work:
    • Before restarting your computer, save any open files to avoid losing progress.
    • Then close all programs that you no longer need.
  2. Open the start menu:
    • Click on the Windows logo (Start symbol) at the bottom left.
    • Alternatively, you can press the Windows key on your keyboard.
  3. Select Restart:
    • In the Start menu, click the Power icon (a small icon that looks like a circle with a line through it).
    • Select "Restart" from the list.
  4. Wait for the computer to restart:
    • The screen goes black and the computer shuts down and then restarts automatically.
    • This may take 1-2 minutes depending on your device.

Your screen remains black

  1. Check monitor:

    • Check the power cable and the connection cable (HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA).
    • Test the monitor on another device.
  2. Restart your computer:

    • Press and hold the power button and restart.
  3. Check graphics card:

    • If you have a desktop PC, reseat the graphics card.

Your computer freezes

  1. Use Task Manager:

    • Windows: Ctrl + Alt + Del > Task Manager > End hanging program.
    • Mac: Cmd + Option + Esc > Force Quit Program.
  2. Force restart:

    • Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds.
  3. Prevent overheating:

    • Make sure the fans are clear and clean them with compressed air if necessary.

Your computer won't start

  1. Check connection:

    • Make sure the computer is plugged into a power outlet.
    • If you have a laptop, check the battery.
  2. Remove external devices:

    • Disconnect USB sticks, external hard drives and other external devices.
  3. Force restart:

    • Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds.
  4. Perform updates:

    • Keep your operating system and programs up to date.

Your computer is getting hot

  1. Check ventilation:
    • Clean the ventilation slots with compressed air.
  2. Position the device:

    • Place the laptop on a hard, flat surface and use a laptop cooler if necessary.
  3. Reduce background processes:

    • Close unnecessary programs in Task Manager.

Your printer is not printing

  1. Check connection:

    • Make sure the printer is connected to the computer (USB or Wi-Fi).
  2. Check paper:

    • Remove any jammed paper and make sure the paper is loaded correctly.
  3. Clear print queue:

    • Windows: Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Select printer > Clear queue.
    • Mac: Open Printer Utility and delete jobs

Your sound doesn't work

  1. Check volume:

    • Make sure the sound is not muted.
  2. Select audio device:

    • Windows: Right-click on the speaker icon > "Sound Settings" > select output device.
    • Mac: System Preferences > Sound > Select Output Device.
  3. Update driver:

    • Windows: Open Device Manager > Update audio driver.

Your computer is slow

  1. Close programs:

    • Open Task Manager: Ctrl + Shift + Esc (Windows) or Activity Monitor (Mac).
    • Close programs that require a lot of performance.
  2. Clean up autostart:

    • Windows:
      • Open Task Manager > Startup tab > Disable unnecessary programs.
    • Mac:
      • System Preferences > Users > Login Items > Remove Unnecessary Entries.
  3. Free up storage space:

    • Empty the trash.
    • Delete large, unnecessary files or programs.
  4. Perform updates:

    • Keep your operating system and programs up to date.

Your mouse or keyboard is not working

  1. Check batteries:

    • For wireless devices: change batteries.
  2. Check connection:

    • Re-insert the USB cable or wireless receiver.
    • Re-pair Bluetooth devices.

Your software crashes

  1. Start anew:

    • Exit the program and start it again.
  2. Update software:

    • Check if updates are available for the program.
  3. New installation:

    • Uninstall the program and reinstall it.

Your computer is not responding

  1. Press and hold the power button on your computer for about 5-10 seconds until the device turns off.
  2. Wait a few seconds and then press the Power button to turn it back on.
